Sudoku Techniques- ScanningScanning is one of the many approaches you can use to help you solve a sudoku puzzle. When you first start a puzzle you should begin solving it by scanning it at least once and than again a few times as you work through it. There are two techniques when it comes to using scanning to your advantage cross-hatching and counting. These are two basic methods you can use in solving every kind of sudoku, whether your completing an easy puzzle or working on a more difficult diabolical. With Cross hatching you will start by scanning across the different rows and columns looking to see if you can locate any particular region that may need a certain number by using the process of elimination. This sudoku technique is often referred to as slicing and dicing, when it involves more than two rows or columns. start by scanning the numbers systematically by checking for the digits from 1 to 9 in order. The two pictures below are examples of cross hatching.
Another of the more common sudoku techniques is called counting and it is just as it sounds. Counting the numbers from 1 to 9 in order to identify any missing numbers you can than fit into the puzzle.
It speeds up your solving time since these are essentially free guesses as they don't take a lot of time to discover. If you are working through the harder type puzzles counting in reverse can often help you determine the value of a cell.
